The House of Mashhad Jewry

Tel Aviv- Jaffa

At the beginning of Rothschild Boulevard, at the entrance to Neve Tzedek, stands a synagogue building listed for preservation. The boulevard passes along the sides of the building and its inner courtyard. The Mashhad community of Iranian Jews sought to establish a heritage center in the building. Two basement levels were added to the synagogue, and a floor with a tiled roof was added above the building and the courtyard. The building houses a heritage center, an exhibition space, an event hall and more. The covered courtyard holds a café, the caretaker's house becomes a kiosk, and the floor above contains residential apartments.
The design seeks to connect the community's heritage with the city's first neighborhood. The facade facing Rothschild Boulevard incorporates motifs from the city of Mashhad, while the other facades follow the language of Neve Tzedek, in the spirit of the building's precise preservation.
