Tel Aviv-Jaffa
The Sarah Goldenberg House at 16 Smolenskin Street was built in 1934, designed by P. Bodansky and the Synergion United Technical Office. The building holds historical value in the development of the Tel Nordau neighborhood and in Tel Aviv’s northward expansion during the 1930s, and lies within the White City, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
Free of stylized ornament, the building makes distinct use of the architectural features of its period – most notably its grand balconies, stairwell windows and the cornices above its windows – creating a rich three-dimensional language unique to it.
The preservation, completed in 2023, uncovered the original balconies with their built parapets, preserved the building’s precise details, and added a rear elevator in a glass shaft.
