Yoav Messer
Yoav Messer was born in Israel (8th generation), raised in Ramat HaSharon and Tel Aviv. He finished his high school studies at Tel Aviv's Tichon Hadash. Messer served in the IDF's Special Forces and after 30 years of reserve service was honorably discharged at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He studied architectural and city planning at the Technion in Haifa of which he graduated with honors. He has taught art at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem as well as the College Michlala Leminhal in Tel Aviv. The city of Tel Aviv remains at the center of Yoav's professional and personal life where he lives with his wife and three children.

As an ongoing search for different cultures and landscapes he has embarked on an extensive travel program that included in the past few years; climbing to the peak of Klimanjaro in Africa, the Katchkar in Turkey, the Mont Blanc in Europe, biking in Burma and Ethiopia, traveling in Haiti and south East Asia.

"Place" (makom)
Messer's guide lines to planning philosophy are to create a place in which the connection between context (Environment), people and spirit is paramount. This notion of place ("makom" - god) is at the heart of the Jewish religion. These three elements are the foundation of the design concept in the process of creating "a place". In each project Messer Architects is striving to create a special spirit and inspiration for the "place", where people will find something else. We have been designing projects with these guidelines for over 20 years.

Projects
Messer's young and dynamic team works on a wide variety of projects throughout Israel.
Public and Cultural facilities: libraries, youth cultural centers, museums
Renovation and Preservation: early 20th century apartment buildings, landmark and historical properties.
Residential projects: apartment buildings, private villas, Interior design.
Sports facilities: gymnasium, swimming pools etc.
Tourism: luxury hotels, spas.
Landscape and Urban Design: public squares, boulevards and parks.
We have participated in many competitions, both local and international.

In the past few years, as Israel has undergone a development boom, Messer's architect has leveraged it's unique position at the crossroad between developers, owners, investors and regulatory authorities. This has lead to numerous successful projects that ultimately "branded" and created value to the clients and investors.

We value this privilege and trust that enabled us to plan public buildings. In those various designs we strive to preserve the limited public space for the good of the community.

Their ongoing work in the public and private domains has contributed to the staff’s ability to straddle the line between micro to macro and vise versa; deftly moving between the small detail to the over all perspective.

Over the years, Messer Architects has built its reputation as a highly respected firm, winning competitions, prizes and appreciation as an energetic office with a unique creative viewpoint.

Location

Messer Architects is located in central Tel Aviv on 21 Hanevi’im Street in a renovated 1937 two story building with a charming back courtyard.
